Gaularfjell viewing point is gem in western Norway, part of the Norwegian Scenic Route Gaularfjell. This mountain pass offers a thrilling ride through dramatic landscapes and untouched nature. It’s a place where the road itself becomes part of the experience.

The Road and the Ride

The ascent to Gaularfjell is a motorcyclist’s dream—tight hairpins, smooth tarmac, and sweeping curves. Each turn reveals new vistas: deep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and towering peaks. The elevation changes keep your senses sharp and your heart racing.

The Viewing Platform

At the summit, a sleek viewing platform juts out over the valley. Designed by Code Arkitektur, it floats above the landscape like a sculpture. From here, you see rivers winding through forests, the road snaking up the mountainside and cliffs fading into the horizon.

Nature All Around

This part of Norway is rich in contrasts—lush green hills, rugged rock faces, and crystal-clear streams. The air is fresh, the silence profound, broken only by birds and waterfalls. It’s a place to pause, breathe, and take in the scale of nature.

In the area

Ride west to Balestrand for fjord views and charming cafés. Head east toward Førde for supplies, food, and overnight stays. Along the route, waterfalls like Likholefossen add drama to the journey. You’ll also find the Fritjov statue and the beautiful Hopperstad stave church along the stunning road Vikafjellsvegen.

Rider’s Tips

Late spring to early autumn is ideal for motorcycle touring here. The road is usually clear, and the weather is mild and stable. Fog and rain can roll in fast—check forecasts before you ride. Fuel up before the climb—stations are few and far between. Wear layers and pack rain gear; mountain weather is unpredictable. Take your time—this road rewards slow, mindful riding.
