Loen Skylift is an aerial tramway located in Loen, Stryn, Norway, that climbs 1,011 meters (3,317 feet) from fjord level to the top of Mount Hoven. It is one of the steepest cable cars in the world, with gradients reaching up to 60°. The gondola can be as high as 170 meters above the ground at its peak. The ride takes about 5 to 7 minutes and travels at a maximum speed of 7 meters per second.

Boosting tourism

The tramway was inaugurated on May 20, 2017, by Queen Sonja of Norway and is the first aerial tramway built in Norway since 1963. It was built at a cost of around 300 million NOK and has significantly boosted local tourism and business, with visitor numbers surpassing expectations. The Loen Skylift is also a popular spot for BASE jumping, with thousands of jumps recorded from Mount Hoven.

Grab a bite after a long day riding?

At the top station, there is the Hoven Restaurant and Bar with seating for 350, offering panoramic views of the fjord landscape, including views of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier and surrounding mountains. The Loen area offers various activities such as hiking, biking, via ferrata climbing, zip lining in summer, and sledding and skiing in winter.

The cable car operates continuously during opening hours, allowing visitors flexibility in timing, with cabins that can hold up to 35 passengers. The facility is designed to be universally accessible, catering to visitors with reduced physical abilities.

Why not end you day with a meal in the restaurant after a long day riding? There are plenty great roads and locations in the area to choose from.

Overall, Loen Skylift is a major tourist attraction in Fjord Norway, offering spectacular nature experiences and adventure activities year-round.
