Panoramavegen across Golsfjellet between Gravset near Hemsedal and Ulnes near Fagernes is a 43 km long panoramic road with a scenic view from start to end – regardless of direction. Panoramavegen has partly tarmac in the beginning and at the end, but great gravel over the plateau.

I started from Hemsedal heading north and rode through lush forests out of Hemsedal before I reached the plateau. When you have the majestic mountain Skogshorn behind you, you will reach Lykkja, Norway’s highest agricultural village. Continuing, the plateau offers spectacular mountain views and serene lakes that dots the landscape everywhere. The wide and great quality gravel road provides stunning panoramic views at every turn, providing a ever-changing scenery.

In the area

If you are arriving from south, maybe you came via Fanitullvegen? That’s another great gravel road going north/south, between Ål and Hemsedal. When you arrive at Fagernes, you have no less than 4 (of in total 28) stave churches lined up for you: Øye, Høre, Lomen and Hegge stave churches are all waiting for you, your camera and Instagram. And if you decide to visit them, Kvernhusene (the mill houses) at Leine – is just in line with the churches and on a great gravel road. Well worth a stop.
