Ravnejuv

Ravnejuv (gorge) is raw, vertical, and unforgettable! The gorge cuts deep into the landscape near Dalen in Telemark. Sheer rock walls drop almost straight down 350 meter beneath your boots. Far below, a narrow ribbon of water winds through the shadowed canyon.

This is not a crowded tourist trap. It is a quiet viewpoint with serious atmosphere. The metal viewing platform extends safely toward the abyss. From here, you look straight into one of Telemark’s most dramatic natural formations. The feeling is both humbling and addictive.

A place of history and royalties

Even European royalty visited this viewpoint in the 1800s. The wild Norwegian landscape fascinated adventurous travelers, and it was a great day trip while enjoying a stay at Dalen Hotel. Ravnejuv became a symbol of untamed nature. Standing here today, you understand why.

The ride to Ravnejuv

For motorcyclists, the journey is half the reward. The roads around Dalen twist through forests and along lakes. Elevation changes keep the ride playful and engaging. The last bit towards Ravnejuv, on Ravnejuvvegen, is a nice gravel road and equally beautiful to ride both from north and south.

Combine Ravnejuvet with a stop at Dalen Hotel or a cruise section along Telemarkskanalen. Vrangfoss sluser (locks) are also worth a visit. If you are riding north, check out the road between Tuddal and Gaustatoppen. The region offers smooth asphalt, sweeping curves, and endless photo opportunities. Autumn adds blazing colors. Summer brings long, golden evenings.

This is Telemark at its most atmospheric.

Practical information

Ravnejuv is located near Dalen in Tokke municipality, Telemark. There is a small parking area close to the viewpoint. The walk from the parking area is short and easy – 200 meter through the forrest. The viewing platform is secured with railings.
