Viking Valley – in the beautiful surroundings of the UNESCO protected Nærøyfjord, you can step into the Viking history. Here you can experience for yourself how the Vikings lived more than a thousand years ago.

The Viking town Njardarheimr in Gudvangen has set the stage for a dive into the Viking history and culture. You can see for yourself how they lived, worked, and what influence they had on the world at the time. In addition to the houses, animals and boats, you will discover a living town, populated by an international community of Viking enthusiasts.

There are plenty of activities for all ages. Kids can make their own clay neckless, shoot with bow and arrow, throw axes, learn Viking games or play with the animals.

Guided tour

There is also a guided tour where you can hear the stories of the Vikings! Understand who the Vikings were and where they came from. Or you can enjoy Viking food – with authentic Viking era ingredients.

The Viking Valley Njardarheimr is built with local private finance and the support of visitors. All income from ticket sales and gift shops go in full to the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Viking project.

Since there are animals in the town, you are not allowed to bring your own pet. The town is open all days between 10.00 and 18.00 during high season. But check their website to know for sure if it’s open or not when you are passing.

Nearby

When in the area, make sure to take a 5 minutes detour from Gudvangen to Bakka on road Fv241. Here you can admire the UNESCO protected Nærøyfjorden without too many tourists around. Not far from Gudvangen, you’ll also find Norwegian Scenic Route Aurlandsfjellet, and the viewpoint Stegastein.
