Tindevegen — ‘The High Peaks Road’ — is a tarmac mountain road between Turtagrø in Luster municipality and Øvre Årdal in Årdal municipality. The road closes during winter, and reopens from approx. 1st May to 1st November.
The stretch between Årdal and Luster is not a road maintained by the government, but is run by a board. Hence, it is a tollroad with tolls at the automatic toll station on Berdalsbandet. The highest point of the road, 1315 masl. The price is 90 NOK for any vehicle, and you pay with credit or debit card.
Tindevegen is part of the shortest land connection between Bergen and Trondheim. It is a popular tourist road with a short distance from the Sognefjord to the alpine peaks. Here you will experience it all — from fjord to the home of trolls; Jotunheimen.
Tip: If you have the opportunity, drive this road in the spring, shortly after it has opened in May. Then you can take the coolest photos with meters high snow edges.
It is perfect to combine Tindevegen with both Tyinvegen and Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet.
